A Visit to Gaspereau Valley Fibres

Last week I had a wonderful visit at Gaspereau Valley Fibres near Wolfville, Nova Scotia. It was an all-round experience, from seeing the origin of the fibre to wine-tasting in the afternoon.
Who could pass by a yarn shop with an entrance as inviting as this?

Beyond this rustic-looking entrance is a treasure trove of yarns, of all varieties and from all over. A veritable feast for the yarn connoisseur. The inviting layout, with lots of tables and chairs for classes or for just sitting and knitting, promotes a real feeling of community. It is little wonder that their customers are devoted and come regularly.

Here are Manda (L) and Brenda, the owner, welcoming us.

The diversity of the selection at Gaspereau Valley Fibres is remarkable. I saw yarns there I had not seen anywhere else.

I had especially wanted to make this trip to Gaspereau Valley Fibres because they are the only shop around here which sells Habu Textiles yarn. I had seen these yarns firsthand at TNNA and became fascinated with them. These special yarns from Japan incorporate fibres such as stainless steel and linen paper into their yarn range, together with finely-spun silk noile and merino. I can't wait to try them out.

This unexpectedly varied yarn shop is nestled on a farm property, complete with sheep and free range hens, who are truly free range.

So not only did I get to luxuriate in all the fibre offerings, I also got to roam the farm and see the gardens, too.
Our day didn't end there, though. Afterwards it was off to lunch in town and an afternoon exploring the Gaspereau Valley and its many vineyards, sampling their wines.

It all made for a perfect vacation day.
