Five Easy Pieces Pattern Club and Knit-Along

I will soon be launching a new pattern club and knit-along called "Five Easy Pieces". You can register for it now.

And that's just what they are: five easy knitting patterns, using easy lace and textured stitch patterns. They may be easy, but with the multi-coloured yarn, they are dramatic and unique.

I had set a challenge for myself: to design a series of patterns that are easy--and fun--to knit, that use one skein of yarn, and that the yarn used be a self-striping yarn. This turned out to be an interesting challenge that I enjoyed thoroughly. I wanted to design smallish pieces that would exploit the features of the popular self-striping yarns that can be found in virtually any LYS.

I love these yarns. It is so much fun to watch the colours as they change and move across the knitted fabric. And let's face it. We all have a lingering ball or two of this yarn in our stashes.

Some of the yarns that I used for these designs are Noro, Unisono, Zauberball, and Trekking. But you can use any fingering to double-knitting weight yarn that you have on hand. They don't even have to be self-striping, since these designs will also work well with handpainted or solid-coloured yarns. As long as you have about 300 m/328 yds. to about 400 m./437 yds., you can make any of the designs in this series.

Beginning in late August, I will be releasing one pattern every three weeks. The patterns include two small shawls, a capelet, a cowl, and a scarf. These make lovely gifts and if you take part in the knit-along, you will have your holiday knitting done well ahead of time.

The five patterns in the Five Easy Pieces Club and Knit-Along will be available only to club members (until after the club is finished). So sign up now and join the fun. There will be contests and prizes, too!
