Blessed with a warm, sunny day in Halifax, knitters from all over gathered on the grounds of the Halifax Public Library on Spring Garden Road to celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day on Saturday.

Over the course of the afternoon both knitters and curious on-lookers filled the lawn. And anyone who thought that knitting was an outdated activity carried on by the few only had to take a look around. There were people of all ages, including children and pets.

There were all kinds of activities planned: a scavenger hunt, raffle prizes, charity knitting, and donations to a local women's shelter. Here knitters registered for the day to take advantage of all the fun and games.

Experienced knitters hobnobbed with newbies, offering instruction and advice. There were visitors from out-of-town, too. Here Nancy (on the right) from Minneapolis is chatting with Corrie:

Remember Catherine, the designer of clothes for infants, from Nettle Knits :

I was there, too, with a table set up for demos and to show some of my original knitted pieces.

We managed to pull off quite a spectacle, there in the middle of the city on one of the busiest intersections. It was impossible for passersby to ignore that knitting is a phenomenon here to stay.
