Opera Rose: New Free Pattern

In keeping with the new collection, Opera Season II, I have designed a free pattern to go along with it: the Opera Rose.
This is a quick-and-easy pattern, ideal for using up those bits and pieces of leftover yarn. Basically you start with a few sitches and knit a few foundation rows in Stockinette Stitch. Then begin a series of rapidly increasing rows. My version of the Opera Rose ends with a couple of rows in a contrasting colour in Garter Stitch.
The whole thing is finished with a picot-edge bind-off. This gives the rose its crinkly edging and adds to its allure. Then roll the piece into a spiral while holding it together at its base. Secure with a few stitches. And you're done.
You can make several of these in an evening.

My version of the Opera Rose is quite a large one. But you can adapt the size to one that suits you best. Just work more or fewer rows, as you wish.
To make your rose more compact--and less floppy-- try felting it in the washing machine.
Another option is to attach your rose to a hair clip and wear it in your hair!
