Stripes of Blue

Stripes have long been a fascination of mine.

What easier way to play and experiment with colour? Simply work a few rows in one colour and switch. No need to follow charts and remember a pattern. With stripes you can follow your own inclination.

Here I am working with subdued tones of blue. Cool, watery, northern colours. Just two rows of Stockinette Stitch for each. The yarn is St-Denis' "Nordique".

If you want to follow the stripe pattern shown here:
The sequence is 2 rows of Fjord (Main Colour), followed by 2 rows of Chaulk Blue and repeated 4 times.
Then 2 rows of Fjord, followed by 2 rows of Grey, repeated 4 times.
Then 2 rows of Fjord, followed by 2 rows of Blue Eggshell, repeated 4 times.

You can use this stripe arrangement--or any other one that you like--to make a long scarf, a toque, even a sweater. I can see this pattern of narrow strips working well for a baby's garment.

Or mix it up your own way.

Or use any of the many self-striping yarns that have the colours already pre-mixed. If these appeal, take a look at my current pattern club and knit-along, Five Easy Pieces . It's all about taking advantage of the beautiful stripes of these yarns.

The current pattern is Watery Ripples, another "watery" series of colours, worked in Zauberball Crazy.

It's going to be all about stripes for the next while.
