I had been thinking for some time about how best to respond, as a designer, to the humanitarian crisis in Haiti.
Then it came to me that I could just do what I do. I could design something. And with the International Year of the Scarf now well underway, doesn't it make sense to include Haiti as a member country? And so the Haiti Scarf was born.
I am offering the Haiti Scarf pattern as a free pattern. If you choose to download the pattern, I ask that you consider making a contribution towards the relief effort in Haiti. You may have already done so. Or perhaps making a financial contribution is difficult as this time. That's OK. The pattern is still yours.
It's easy to fall into thinking that there is nothing we can do. That the problem is too huge and we are too far away. But there is always something we can do. We can knit.
We can knit for others. We can knit for ourselves.
We can knit into every stitch our thoughts of hope and recovery. We can send sustaining thoughts, thoughts of comfort and strength, of endurance through difficult times. Our thoughts have far-reaching effects.
So let's knit.
