Flame in the Forest
With the colder days upon us, the time for a set of felted hat and mittens seems just right: Flame in the Forest.
It is the fourth pattern in the Five--More--Easy Pieces Club. A different take on working with a self-striping yarn.
This one is a 100% wool yarn, perfect for felting, a fat single-ply by Naturally called Vero.
I had originally used it to make a pair of mittens for myself to wear. I enjoyed making the mittens so much that I wanted another felting project with the same yarn. And so the idea of Flame int the Forest was born.
The mittens with the gauntlet cuffs are stylish to wear over the sleeve cuffs of a jacket or coat.
The brim of the hat can be worn in different ways, too. Up on one side or all around or down for a cloche. Very French fashion!
Here is how the hat looked before I felted it. A bit of a lumpy mess.
But I had faith in the felting process and I was not disappointed.
These two projects make great gifts, either as separate items or as a set. They work up quicjkly and will definitely keep the wearer warm on the coldest days.
