It is inspired by the Summer Solstice--and the Latvian Midsummer festival called Janji--when young women wear crowns woven with the field flowers of the season.
This maiden is associated with the river. Her shawl is composed of the long flowing lines of gentle river waters. Its extra-long tapered ends allow it to be wrapped around the body, leaving the hands free.
The stitch pattern is completely reversible, making it possible to wear the shawl with either side facing out. Each side has its own unique pattern.
